Bromford Iron & Steel, a West Bromwich producer of hot rolled flats, sections and custom profiles, has taken on two, new full-time apprentices as technicians within the maintenance team.
This follows the recent announcement of a decade-long commitment to growth from Bromford’s owner, the OSSL Group.
The apprentices have successfully completed a 12-month training course at the EEF Technical Centre in Aston. Alongside traditional disciplines such as operations and quality control, this has included training in programmable logic control (PLC), CNC, 3D simulation and AutoCAD technologies.
“New blood is vital to keep UK manufacturing growing,” said Chris Hutton-Penman, chairman of the OSSL Group.
“It is clear that the apprenticeships offered by the EEF centre equip young people with the skills and knowledge to forge strong careers in the sector and we are already looking to expand this programme to the quality control team.”
“Apprentices are an excellent way for us to take on new talent and drive our operations forward,” added Bromford’s operations director, Andrew Rich. “Not only are we securing the continuity of our business, but these apprentices can bring in new ideas and techniques, playing a crucial role in our development.”
